Biography
Based in Toronto, David Fredrik Moussallem’s paintings emerge from the intersections of street culture, design, and the language of collage. Working in a mode often referred to as “post-graffiti,” Moussallem transforms the visual residue of the city, typography, fragments of advertising, and layers of colour into richly stratified surfaces that read as both map and memory.
His carved collages are not built in the conventional sense, but excavated: surfaces are layered, scraped back, and reassembled, echoing the palimpsest quality of urban walls. In this process, difference and similarity become inseparable, revealing the tensions and harmonies that exist within shared cultural space.
Beyond his studio practice, he also undertakes bespoke commissions for private clients and design-focused projects, extending his visual language into unique, site-specific works.
Beloved by collectors internationally, Moussallem’s work has been featured in Contemporary Collage Magazine, recognized by Saatchi Art among its prestigious “Rising Stars”, and placed in collections across more than 15 countries. Exhibitions in Paris, New York, California, South Florida, and Toronto further situate him within the evolving global conversation around collage-based abstraction. His recent solo exhibition, Cityscapes (Muriel Guépin Gallery, SoHo), reflects his ongoing exploration of the city as both subject and medium.
